IRELAND ESCAPADE — OUTLINE ITINERARY
THU, MAY 4- UNITED STATES TO DUBLIN
Depart your hometown and take an overnight flight across the Atlantic.
FRI, MAY 5- DUBLIN ARRIVAL & GLASNEVIN MUSEUM
After landing at Dublin Airport, complete customs and immigration formalities. Your CIE Tours driver/guide will welcome you to Ireland. Drive to the nearby Glasnevin Museum, Ireland’s national necropolis, which is a who’s who of modern Irish history as the final resting place of many prominent Irish people. At the end of your visit, enjoy breakfast at the onsite café. Drive into the city center for an orientation drive. Then drive to your hotel and check in. After you settle into your room you may like to rest or explore some of the city on your own. This evening drive to Taylors Three Rock for dinner followed by a lively show.
OVERNIGHT: BROOKS HOTEL, DUBLIN
SAT, MAY 6- DUBLIN HIGHLIGHTS
Set off with a local guide who will show you around Dublin. The city has been molded through the centuries with many architectural styles, reflecting the economic, political and artistic influences. Stop to tour St. Patrick’s Cathedral, which is almost as old as the city itself. In Trinity College view the 8th century Book of Kells. The balance of the afternoon is free before dinner at the hotel restaurant with your group.
DINNER & OVERNIGHT: BROOKS HOTEL, DUBLIN
SUN, MAY 7- COBH, BLARNEY CASTLE & KILLARNEY
After breakfast, drive through the prosperous farming country and marketing towns of the midland region of Ireland. Stop for photos at the Rock of Cashel, a stately limestone outcrop topped with medieval church ruins. Continue your drive southwest to Cobh, the
harbor town for large ships. Here, visit the Cobh Heritage Center, which depicts the varied history of emigration from many European countries to the United States over the past 150 years. Then drive through the outskirts of Cork to Blarney where you can climb the battlements of Blarney Castle and kiss the famous ” Stone of Eloquence” or take a walk through the stunning grounds for a look at the castle, if you do not wish to climb. Also visit the Blarney Woolen Mills, which has an excellent range of Irish products of all types. Journey west through rugged countryside to Killarney, a town widely celebrated for its setting overlooking lakes and mountains. After checking into your hotel, you may like to browse around this busy little town before dinner at the hotel restaurant with your fellow travelers.
DINNER & OVERNIGHT: KILLARNEY TOWERS HOTEL, KILLARNEY
MON, MAY 8- RING OF KERRY TOUR
Today explore the Ring of Kerry – 100 miles of marvelous scenery consisting of the highest peaks in Ireland on one side and a coastline scattered with golden beaches and rocky headlands on the other. Enjoy plenty of stops to view the scenery and take photos. Travel through Glenbeigh, Cahirciveen and on to Waterville and the colorful village of Sneem. Stop at Lady’s View for a view of the three Lakes of Killarney with the mountains and the town in the background. Return to Killarney for some free time to look around the town on your own.
OVERNIGHT: KILLARNEY TOWERS HOTEL, KILLARNEY
TUE, MAY 9- CLIFFS OF MOHER & GALWAY
Depart Killarney and travel north through the village of Listowel to Tarbert. Take a 20-minute ferry ride across the River Shannon estuary and out along the coastline to take in the sheer beauty of the Cliffs of Moher. Pass through the Burren, an area of rocky limestone hills where a number of unique flowers thrive. This region also contains many dolmens, prehistoric monuments formed by large limestone slabs. Continue north to Galway and embark on a guided walking tour. See the medieval city walls, Lynch’s Castle and the narrow streets. Then check into your hotel and enjoy the remainder of the afternoon at leisure. In the evening, join your group for dinner at the hotel restaurant.

WED, MAY 10- KNOCK SHRINE
Today, travel to Knock and visit the Knock Shrine which is one of the world’s leading places of pilgrimage where the Virgin Mary appeared to 15 people on August 21, 1879. Drive into Westport and stop for an independent lunch with your group. Next, visit the conical mountain of Croagh Patrick, which is a popular place of pilgrimage. Tradition maintains that St. Patrick fasted here for 40 days. Return to Galway for a free evening.
OVERNIGHT: PARK HOUSE HOTEL, GALWAY
THU, MAY 11- ARAN ISLANDS & DUN AENGUS
This morning, take a short ferry ride from Rossaveal to Inis Mor, the largest of the three Aran Islands. These rocky islands are renowned for the hardy islanders who maintained traditional fishing and farming methods. The Irish language is still spoken widely. Take a minibus ride to Dun Aengus, a huge pre-historic fortress perched on sheer cliffs, which fall away to the Atlantic Ocean below. Take a look around Kilronan, the main town, before returning to Galway in time for dinner.
DINNER & OVERNIGHT: PARK HOUSE HOTEL, GALWAY
FRI, MAY 12- RATHBAUN FARM & BUNRATTY
After breakfast, stop in Ardrahan to visit Rathbaun Farm, a picturesque 150-year old farmhouse where you can see a variety of animals. The owners will tell you about traditional farming practices. Enjoy tea and scones before boarding the coach and driving around Galway Bay. Continue your journey into the Village of Bunratty.
Upon arrival, visit the Bunratty Folk Park, which comprises a collection of farmhouses from different regions of Ireland. Also see a 19th century village street, where traditional lifestyles and crafts are demonstrated. Then check into your hotel, where you will have some free time to relax before this evening’s festivities. This evening join in the fun and feasting at Bunratty Castle. Your medieval-style banquet is served in the Great Hall of the 15th century castle.
OVERNIGHT: OAKWOOD ARMS HOTEL, BUNRATTY
SAT, MAY 13- RETURN TO THE UNITED STATES
Sadly, today your vacation has come to its final day. Transfer to Shannon Airport in plenty of time to check in for your flight. You may do some last minute shopping at the duty free stores before boarding your aircraft and flying across the Atlantic Ocean back to the United States.
