Depart the U.S
Depart from the United States either using our optional group air space or your self booked overnight flights to Leonardo Da Vinci (FCO) airport in Rome. After a brief transfer to the lovely area of Umbria, check in at Hotel Palazzo Piccolomini Orvieto or at Valentina’s B&B–Affittacamere Valentina.
Enjoy a walking tour followed by a Welcome Dinner.

Explore Orvieto or Take a Cooking Class
Spend the day exploring Orvieto or consider the optional cooking class and market visit to start your day. Visit the wonderful market of Piazza del Popolo, meeting farmers and producers of the best delicacies of Umbria, Lazio and Tuscany: focaccia, fresh bread, porchetta, salami, cheese, ricotta, fresh and dried fruit, vegetables, mushrooms, sweets, olives, etc. Here you will try the fantastic traveling breakfast and shopping for ingredients that will be used during the cooking class. Travel to a small village and a private villa where you will prepare a lovely meal to be enjoyed with wine.
After a leisurely lunch, you will be driven back to Orvieto and the rest of the day is leisure.

Optional Tour to Assisi
Optional-Full Day Tour to Assisi with stop in Deruta (Time Permitting)
Visit the UNESCO site of Assisi – a medieval city built on a hill and the birthplace of Saint Francis, closely associated with the work of the Franciscan Order. Its medieval art masterpieces, such as the Basilica of San Francesco and paintings by Cimabue, Pietro Lorenzetti, Simone Martini and Giotto have made Assisi a fundamental reference point for the development of Italian and European art and architecture.
You will have the opportunity to tour the Basilica as well as to walk around the small town and enjoy lunch on your own.
Time permitting, you will make stop in Deruta and visit one of the original factories manufacturing Maioliche Pottery. If possible, the family will also give you a demonstration of how the pottery is made. You will have the option to purchase your own special pieces to take back with you or ship to your home.

Travel to Tuscany
Private transfer from Orvieto to Tuscany
Leave your accommodations in Orvieto and be ready to view some incredible scenery as we travel from Umbria to Tuscany. Our ride will be 2.5 to 3 hours long but we will allow for stops along the way. Nothing like an Italian Highway Stop!
Before checking into our hotel, we will travel a little further to enjoy a short visit to Siena, home of the original Palio, and wine tasting at one of our favorite agriturismo locales in San Gimignano.

Optional-Full Day Tour of Florence
We will get an early start and travel by private motorcoach towards Florence with an arrival in the city’s center within an hour. Meet your guide and enjoy a leisurely 3 hour guided tour of the Accademia (see the statue of David and the unfinished works of Michelangelo) and visit the Baptistery and the Cathedral.
Lunch is on your own following the end of the tour and you will have several hours to enjoy all that Florence has to offer before you return to Grotta Giusti.

Optional–Full Day Tour to Cinque Terre
Another early start but what beauty awaits you as you visit the tiny villages that comprise Cinque Terre. Your first stop will be Manarola for a little visit followed by a ferry ride to Vernazza to explore the town.
If requested, you can also arrange for a special wine tasting lunch!
Work off your meal with a light hike to Monterosso either via ferry or train and either relax on the beach, explore the town or visit a winery.
Take lots of pictures and review them on your hour-long ride back to Grotto Giusti.

Drive from Tuscany to Rome
Check out of Grotta Giusti and bid farewell to the thermal spas and be ready for your trip towards Rome which will take roughly 4 hours with plenty of stops in between!

Explore Rome on Your Own or Take 2 Optional Tours
Optional-Papal Audience and Optional Vatican Museums with St. Peter’s Private Tour
Today, you have the option to take two tours. If the Pope is in town, we will request tickets to receive his blessing at St. Peter’s Square. Although the benediction take place mid-morning,you will need to leave the hotel shortly before 8AM in order to secure entry to the square. There is no cost for admission so the cost is only for the transport from the hotel.
Also, we will be offering the optional Vatican Museums and St. Peter’s Private Tour with our favorite tour guide in Rome – the incomparable Antonella! We will meet and tour the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel. Following the Chapel visit, you will be led to St. Peter’s for a tour of the church and its majestic beauty.

Say arrivederci to the Dolce Vita by having one last slice of pizza with your fellow travelers in the lively area of Rome called Trastevere. Enjoy the street vendors, the music and the laughter as you savor your last night in Rome.
